At West Central Electric Cooperative, we are dedicated to providing safe and reliable power, affordably to our communities. As a member-owned electric cooperative, we are looking for a Staking Technician to perform various staking and engineering duties. Key Responsibilities:

  • Staking and Layout: Assist in creating staking sheets and designs for electrical distribution lines, transformers, and other system components.
  • Field Surveys: Conduct site visits to collect data for new installations, maintenance, and upgrades and retirements of electrical infrastructure, and rights-of-way acquisition.
  • Document Preparation: Prepare and maintain detailed staking documents, including maps, work orders, and specifications, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work follows safety protocols and complies with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Mapping and GIS Support: Use GIS tools, AutoCAD, or other relevant software to support the planning and design process for new electrical distribution lines.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or relevant technical certifications are a plus.
  • Previous experience in staking, fieldwork, or electrical distribution systems is preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and construction methods.
  • Proficiency with mapping tools and GIS software, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to document and track data accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Ability to work in both office and outdoor environments, including travel to project sites.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the electric cooperative or utility industry.
  • Knowledge of electric distribution systems, including overhead and underground construction.
  • Familiarity with local utility regulations and safety standards.
  • Experience with CAD software or GIS applications.
